5 tips for your online business on surviving the Google Panda updates
Hey guys, I know Google Panda is an old topic now as far as algorithm changes go but I felt it would be handy to have something addressing Panda, Penguin and Disavow Tools on my site.
The Google Panda update, which was the first major algorithm update in the Google’s search engine ranking system, was first introduced on February 24th, 2011. It is also commonly known as the Farmer update, because of its immense focus on the link-farms (which will be discussed soon).
The Google Panda update was first brought into play to counter low-quality websites. Its modified and new techniques prevent such websites to rank higher in the search engines, while giving more opportunities to websites that are more meaningful, have in-depth knowledge on a niche and are more user-friendly in nature.
Numerous businesses have suffered huge losses because of the introduction of Google Panda. Their search engine rankings dropped, and so did their traffic and sales. If you have an online business, it is imperative for you to survive from this update – if you are to compete any further.
Following are the top 5 tips for your online business…
Surviving the Google Panda updates
1. No Black Hat SEO Technique:
This is going to be the basis of your SEO strategy and plan, if you want to survive the Google Panda update. Black hat SEO techniques are the ones that are prohibited by all the major search engines. If founded guilty of using any of the black hat SEO technique, your website can be punished severely. Instead of using black hat SEO techniques, which require lesser time and efforts, try to be patient and use white hat SEO techniques. Using white hat SEO techniques is the right and legitimate way to go. Though, it may take some extra time, but the results are far more concrete and better this way.
Doorway pages, link farming, cloaking, hidden texts, are some of the most commonly used black hat SEO techniques
2. Keyword Optimization:
Keyword optimization is one of the most important SEO techniques for bringing more customers to your online business. However, with the Google Panda update, the approach of keyword optimization has been revolutionized.
You can no longer stuff keywords with high density. Doing so will result in penalization from Google Panda. So, make sure to use your primary keywords naturally in your website content, without stuffing them.
3. Backlinks:
The technique of having low-quality backlinks, within a group of sites, is termed as link-farming. Farmer or the Google Panda update was first basically designed to counter the use of this technique. Backlinks are an important aspect of off-page SEO. Therefore, Google had to make sure that they are of high-quality. Avoid link-farming and focus on getting high-quality backlinks. Guest blogging and social media backlinks are two solid ways to go.
4. Page Loading Time:
It is a fairly new factor for search engines, when it comes to evaluating search engine rankings. How fast your website and its webpages are loaded, is now an important factor for your SEO ranking. So, make sure that your website is reasonably fast. Otherwise Google Panda can penalize your online business.
5. Exclusive and High-quality Information:
For informative blogs, it has become more important to provide exclusive and high-quality information to users. Unlike before, when people used to publish barely rewritten content, Google now only rewards websites with exclusive and high-quality content.
In an attempt to stay competitive with your online business, the above-mentioned 5 tips will come in handy. However, it is equally important to stay on the edge by having the most updated information on how to survive the Google Panda updates.

Hi Gareth,
“Backlinks – Guest blogging and social media backlinks are two solid ways to go.”
‘That’s for the future, what about the past activity?’, some of your readers might ask. ‘What if I already have links from low quality sites? Posted by me – by mistake – or by my COMPETITION.’
Here’s my tip:
1. Go to your Webmaster Tools account (provided free by Mr. G) and see if you have warnings about “unnatural links” pointing to your site.
2. Ask the webmasters of the sites hosting the “unnatural links” to remove the link/links to your site.
3. If the method from the above point 2 doesn’t succeed, go back to Mr. G and report them by using the free tool “Disavow Links”.
That’s it.
I hope this helps and adds some value to the original article

Adrian,
Great tips as always. I do have posts about Google Penguin and the Disavow Tool on the way but great content like yours is always welcome. I’ve been doing a lot of reading about the Disavow Tool lately and am becoming a lot more aware of the comments/links I allow on my site.
Some of the attempts I get are very strange! I had one guy who copied a previous comment word for word and try to pass it off as his own! Because I read every comment, it flagged up immediately!
Hi Gareth,
Am totally agreed with you, yes recent Google Panda penalized most of the sites by doesn’t follow the above steps..Why the people using more keywords in their website again & again, this leads to increase the keywords stuffing this will be also penalized. And the main thing is Black Hat technique, yes this is the basic thing but many people still following this technique they do not follow the pure white hat seo. But the think is most of the people will follow the Grey hat Seo..
Kim,
I’ve always hated keyword stuffing and will admit that some of my ‘mentors’ in the past have recommended it. It’s time consuming and I have never liked having keywords that weren’t related to the topic on my posts. I had a really good spring clean about 9 months back to clear out all of the rubbish!
These are great tips, Gareth. If you are doing SEO the ethical way, and building links the natural way, no update will have any affect. Thanks for the share.
